The new volume conceptually and physically completes the project of the “oriocenter” shopping center. The design theme required solving two problems: the addition of the new volume had to be perceived as a natural completion of the original project without giving up its own independence; furthermore, the concepts of “front” and “back” had to be rethought. We chose to create a volume independent of the original core, built on the parking lot and not “leaning” against the building. Internally, the shopping mall is experienced as a continuum, a seamless flow between the two buildings. Contrary to the “commercial” logic, the envelope is not used as an advertising medium, as an evocative base for the content. Breaking the content-container link, the external surface (galvanized sheet metal) is ennobled by light modules that determine its personal communicative vocation. The building thus presents itself as a territorial landmark, its skin, iridescent by day, becomes a dynamic element by night. We thought of lighting as intrinsic brightness. Not an illuminated volume, but one that emits its own light. The luminous strips on the facades are controlled by software that allows you to program different scenarios. The building then pulsates, takes on continuously changing appearances in harmony or dissonance with the atmospheric conditions. The southern front, open towards a territory balanced between an agricultural past and an undefined urbanization process, features a glass volume cantilevered on the facade. The administrative function located in the glass box denotes a new importance assumed by what was until now considered a back; conceptually an opening towards the natural fabric, towards the plain.
