The site of the Vietnamese Pavilion was only 887 square meters, and after subtracting the setback areas, less than 400 square meters remained. However, the pavilion was conceived as a forest with forty-six trees above the building to improve the environmental conditions below. Our proposal is to bring trees back into the urban landscape to emphasize the importance of nature and live in harmony with it. Trees not only provide a visual and emotional impact to humans, but also shade the building by blocking solar radiation. In addition, they create a refreshing breeze together with the pool, enabling energy-efficient operation of the building and providing a comfortable place in the surroundings. Another material used in the pavilion is bamboo, which has a strong connection with Vietnamese culture and life. The columns of the pavilion are covered with bamboo, which provides a texture that helps to regain peace of mind, representing a natural and tactile material in the space. Twenty Vietnamese bamboo craftsmen installed the bamboo parts, expressing the Vietnamese manufacturing spirit.
Due to the low construction and design budget of the pavilion, which is 2.08 million US dollars, the design costs were voluntary. The exhibition is only temporarily open for six months, so it is not practical to invest a lot of money and energy in the construction process. The pavilion was built as a structure with many positive results due to the rapid reproduction of bamboo, potted trees and reusable structure.
We propose the concept of “Tree Buildings” for future cities, which bring joy to people.
