The project transformed a simple 1970s reinforced concrete tower into a distinctive and original building. The main change is the addition of an external steel cladding, with a metal structure that acts as a sunshade, adapting to different solar exposures. This galvanized and painted steel casing is designed to require little maintenance and ensure a long life. The adjustable metal slats were created with 3D laser cutting and are protected from corrosion.
The use of steel allowed the façade modules to be prefabricated in the workshop, thus speeding up installation on site. The lightness of the metal structure made it possible to create a sinuous and light envelope, without overloading the main structure of the building. To increase seismic safety, steel reinforcements were added.
Maintenance walkways were inserted between the building and the new external façade. The sunshade system is part of a series of measures to improve energy efficiency, together with good thermal insulation and a natural ventilation system. Thanks to these technologies, the building has obtained the LEED Gold certification, which recognizes energy efficiency and low environmental impact.
