The project is the campus of the Veterinary School of the University of Milan, located in the Lombardy plain.
Inspired by the traditional courtyard style of Lombard farmhouses, we defined the space by intersecting blocks of low buildings. We kept the existing canal and designed the architecture to cross it like a bridge to unite landscape and architecture. We also arranged a large overhanging gutter at the front of the building to create an intermediate area like the Japanese engawa, often used as a small place for conversation.
By applying wooden planes for the facade and ceiling, we managed to give warmth and a certain rhythm to the building, which can blend in with the lush greenery of Lombardy.
